(i) Biological and Environmental Sciences M.S., Ph.D.

Specializations:The M.S. and Ph.D. in biological and environmental sciences (BES) are interdisciplinary, interdepartmental graduate degrees that involve faculty from a diverse set of departments in URI’s College of the Environment and Life Sciences (CELS), including Biological Sciences; Cell and Molecular Biology; Fisheries, Animal and Veterinary Science; Geosciences; Natural Resources Science; Nutrition and Food Sciences; and Plant Sciences; as well as faculty from the Graduate School of Oceanography.

(ii) Medical Laboratory Science, M.S.

Specializations: Major specializations in biotechnology, cytopathology, medical laboratory sciences, and public health laboratory sciences; minor specializations in adult education and management.

(iii) Environmental & Natural Resource Economics, M.S., Ph.D.

Specializations: Environmental economics, renewable and nonrenewable natural resource economics, fisheries management, international fisheries development, international trade, fisheries marketing, coastal zone land use and management, quality of the marine environment, aquaculture economics, offshore oil and gas management, and natural resource pricing policies.

(iv) Environmental Science and Management (MESM)

Specializations: Conservation biology; earth and hydrologic science; environmental policy and management; remote sensing and spatial analysis; sustainable systems; and wetland, watershed, and ecosystem science.

(v) Marine Affairs, M.A., M.M.A., Ph.D.

Specializations: Ecosystem-based management of coastal/ocean areas, coastal zone management, marine transportation and port planning, fisheries law and management, international marine policy and law.

(vi) Nutrition & Food Science, M.S., Combined M.S. Dietetic Internship Program, Ph.D. (Biological and Environmental Sciences)

Specializations: Nutritional status and food behavior of high risk population groups; dietary behavior change to reduce chronic disease risk; nutrition issues related to aging and weight management; diet and exercise; energy and macronutrient metabolism; metabolic regulation and energy balance and lipid metabolism.
