Dr. Brian Maynard assumes helm of eastern plant propagators group

Dr. Brian Maynard, professor of horticulture in the CELS Plant Sciences department, has been named president of the International Plant Propagator's Society (IPPS) eastern region for 2008.

Founded in 1951 by a group of nursery professionals and university faculty, IPPS promotes the art and science of plant propagation. Since the founding the, IPPS has grown to encompass eight international regions and 2,400 members.

The eastern region is the original, and with 600 members, the largest.

Maynard joined IPPS in 1984 and has taken on several leadership roles in the group including the organization of the 1997 annual meeting in Newport.

Maynard was elected a Lifetime Fellow of the IPPS in 2003 in honor of his service to the organization and contributions to the science of plant propagation.

Maynard organized scientific sessions at meetings inn Michigan and in Quebec. He will preside over a joint meeting of the eastern and western region in Colorado in September and is already planning for an annual meeting of the eastern region to be held in Warwick in 2010.
