Who: Candidate must be a CELS student; freshman or sophomore preferred. Student should be able to perform research online, work independently, and be able to manage his/her time well. Applicant must have strong writing, research, and communication skills. Knowledge of HTML preferred but not required.

What: Research events that would be of interest to CELS students on-campus, off-campus as well as internships and job opportunities for undergraduates and graduate students.
When: 10 hr/week. Student will be trained this year and take over the position in Fall 2008.
Where: Student is allowed to work from home for the majority of hours/week. Other time will be spent in Woodward Hall.

Wildlife Biologist
Who: The ideal candidate will possess a Masters degree (a Bachelors is acceptable) in wildlife biology, zoology, ecology, botany, or range science, 1 to 5 years minimum of field experience within the Arizona and Southwest region, working knowledge of environmental regulations including NEPA and ESA, experience with wetland delineation and Section 404 permitting, and experience working with state wildlife agencies and federal land management agencies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

What: Primary duties may include extended field work, field studies and protocol surveys, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, preparation of technical reports in support of NEPA documents, and coordination with State and Federal agencies.

Fisheries Biologist
Who: Seeking an entry- to mid-level fisheries biologist / aquatic ecologist to join its thriving natural resources group based in Sacramento, California. The successful applicant will provide a supporting role in fisheries, aquatic ecology, water quality, and hydrology technical work involving ESA permitting, ecological restoration, resource management planning, biological impact analysis for CEQA and NEPA documents; and coordination with clients and regulatory agencies. 2 to 5 years of prior consulting experience is preferred, but non-consultant candidates with relevant experience are encouraged to apply as well.

What: Projects will involve innovative mitigation and conservation planning; multidisciplinary teamwork with biologists, planners, landscape architects, and restoration ecologists; and creative integration of natural resource analysis and project design. Exciting opportunities exist on projects involving fisheries and aquatic ecology; watershed assessment and management; aquatic habitat restoration and enhancement; aquatic bioassessment; land use, water supply, and wastewater planning; flood control and levee setbacks; comprehensive natural resource planning for local, state, and federal agencies; water rights applications and other regulatory/permit proceedings; planning studies related to water supply and treatment infrastructure; and CEQA, NEPA, and ESA compliance for all of the above.

Landscaping Help Wanted
Who: URI student, preferably with landscaping experience.
Employer: URI Cooperative Extension’s New England Onsite Wastewater Training Program
What: cutting grass, trimming, general landscape maintenance work, and some painting at our Training Center located at Peckham Farm
When: April 28, 2007 (grass is growing fast) and continuing through Fall 2007.
Position is Spring/Summer / Fall. Generally 15 hours/week in summer; 7 hours weekly in academic year. The hours are flexible, work can be done in evenings or weekends.
Where: URI Cooperative Extension, the center is within walking distance of campus.
