Amelanchier canadensis


Multi-stemmed shrub or small tree, white flowers in early spring, edible purple berries in summer. Prefers moist acidic soil, tolerates wet areas. Native to RI. 15-25', variable spread. Susceptible to fungal infections; may be mitigated by proximity to salt water (typical of Zone 1).
